Castleblayney Hurling Club Notes 19th February 2024
Juvenile Presentation Our Juvenile Presentation took place on Sunday, Feb 18th in Iontas at 6pm for the following groups:
U7 & U9 2023
U11 2023: Monaghan League
U13 2023: Monaghan Championship
U15 2023: Monaghan League
In a packed auditorium the enthusiastic & eager juveniles in our club were presented with their medals/certificates marking another hugely successful year for them.
Organized by Coaching Officer David Connolly, ably assisted by club Secretary Catherine Duffy & Marisa Duffy, Children’s officer & Safeguarding officer, the presentation ran very smoothly with Niall Garland, Lory Meagher Player of the Year, doing MC & Aaron Kenny, Senior team Captain presenting the medals. David Connolly thanked the sponsors, mentors, coaches & parents for all their help & support, while also acknowledging Castleblayney Faughs, Castleblayney College, Our Lady’s Secondary School & the Boys School for the use of their facilities. Finishing up, David, on behalf of the Coaching & Games Committee, thanked Clare McElroy for the medals, Crafty Owl Productions for the certificates, Ray & Dominic of The Mascot Castleblayney & Ardee, Hannah & the staff in Iontas & Glenn Murphy for their continued help & support. The evening concluded with delicious food enjoyed by all. Great to see these young people eager to get swinging the hurl again. Looking forward to another successful year
Dinner Dance Date for your diary is the club Dinner dance on Saturday 2nd March in the Glencarn Hotel, 7.30pm, band & DJ, Tickets €35. 70 Years the club celebrates 70 years this year. Hurling in Castleblayney was formally organized in April 1906 & after a sporadic history through the 1910’s to the 1940’s, hurling enthusiasts reformed the club in 1954. The committee was:

We are delighted & privileged to have representatives from these families attend our dinner dance on March 2nd in The Glencarn, which allows us acknowledge their contribution to hurling in the town.
Membership All players need to be fully registered before starting training or playing matches, otherwise they are not covered by the injury scheme. At a recent club meeting, the following rates were decided upon for 2024:
Cairde €120 Includes all adults & juveniles in a household & any students in full time education over 18. All adults can vote at AGM. May be paid in full or 6 monthly instalments of €20.
Senior Player €120 May be paid in full or 6 monthly instalments of €20. All adults can vote at AGM
Student Senior Player €30 All adults can vote at AGM
Adult non-player €30 full voting rights
Juvenile Family €50 This includes parents & all juvenile players. Parents have voting rights a AGM.

Free Membership Get your club membership sorted on or before 1st March to be in with a chance of having it reimbursed to you. U8’s Blitz A big well done to our U8’s who played for 90 minutes last Friday evening at the DKIT Regional Blitz organised by Ulster RDHO Eamon Blaney. They played games against Inniskeen, Knockbridge and Craobh Rua. The U8s/U10s continue training each Wednesday from 6-7pm at Castleblayney College Gym.
U10’s Blitz 1st DKIT blitz next Friday 23rd February at 7pm.

Congratulations go to Senior player, Nathan Adair who popped the question on St Valentine’s Day and Martina said Yes, you old romantic Nathan! Best wishes. Also a word of congrats to our Development Officer, Martin Rafter, who had a red letter occasion recently, having run his 250th Parkrun, well done Martin, still going strong!!
Coaches: A reminder to all coaches involved with underage teams to complete their Vetting ASAP if requested to by the Children’s Officer. Coaches are not permitted to be involved with underage teams if their Vetting and Safeguarding are not up to date. Volunteers as the club prepares to get organised for the year ahead, we have identified the need for new people to help us with the coaching of our juveniles & also non-coaching assistance (signing in and out at training, helping at training stations etc).
