Summer Camp 2023
C
Our summer camp started on Monday 10th July and saw over 100 children converge on the Juvenile Pitch in St Mary’s Park, undeterred by the weather. For the 3 days, the children were put through their paces by coaches and their helpers. We were delighted to have Lory Meagher All Ireland winning captain, Niall Garland on hand as well as Peter Treanor who captained the club to the All Ireland Junior Club Final in Croke Park in February 2019. Others members of the county team were there to assist as well as several of the Senior team and the Minor team. We were fortunate to have the services of Oisín McManus, Regional Development Hurling Officer who also gave of his coaching skills. Many parents also volunteered which left us well equipped to give the children plenty of attention. This mammoth task was organised and overseen by a sub committee headed by David Connolly, ably assisted by Children’s Officer, Marisa Duffy. Fun and games were the order of the day with hurling skills being picked up along the way.
On Wednesday the camp finished up with some important visitors! First up was the Lory Meagher Cup and our Juveniles were delighted to be photographed with such an illustrious cup. Next up was our camp sponsor, Raymond Watters who came bearing delicious hot food, yum yum & whose generous contribution made it all possible. The club are very appreciative of Raymond’s generosity. Thanks also to Ray & Dominic of The Mascot for their continued support, to Brendan Boyd who provided First Aid over the 3 days, to the Faughs club & Castleblayney College for the use of their facilities and lastly to Glenn Murphy who captured the images so well. GRMA. The children went home on Wednesday, tired but happy, sporting their classy camp tops. Happy campers and smiles all round💚💛
