Castleblayney Hurling Club Notes 22nd July 2024

Kilmacud 7’s Champions What a wonderful outing for our Seniors & management at the Kilmacud 7’s last Saturday, games traditionally played on the eve of the Hurling Final. The lads met Dungannon in the Final and after a good hard game, came out as the winning side. This is a fantastic achievement for the club and we extend congratulations to the team & to the management of Kevin, Eddie & Paddy. A big bualadh bos for everyone!

Street Collection A huge thank you to all who made our street collection last Saturday such a great success.  To the generous folk who gave so graciously, happy to support the club and stop and have a chat, to all our volunteers & our hard-working fundraising committee who gave their time & ensured everything ran smoothly, we say a big thank you. All of these funds help defray the running costs of the juvenile club & your contribution matters. Teamwork makes the dream work!

Sponsor A big thank you to our ongoing sponsor, Pete McMahon, Centra & Supervalu who presented club representatives with a new set of jerseys last week ahead of the commencement of the Senior Hurling Championship this coming week. The club appreciates Pete’s generosity & his ongoing commitment to the club.

Well done to Shay Mallie who played during half time on Sunday at the All Ireland Senior Hurling Championship in Croke Park. A great honour for Shay, his family & his school, Scoil Mhuire na mBuachaillí. Castleblayney. We hope you enjoyed the experience & rubbing shoulders with all at GAA HQ. Not the last time you will make an appearance there!

Congrats Shay Mallie wasn’t our only connection to the All Ireland Hurling Final on Sunday. Gus Lohan, father of the Clare Manager, Brian, played with Blayney & Monaghan Hurlers in 1961. So congrats to Brian Lohan on his outstanding achievement for himself & the Clare Hurlers on winning the highest accolade in the hurling field.
