Another Successful Summer Camp for Castleblayney Hurling

Castleblayney Hurling Club, celebrating their 70th Anniversary, have just wrapped up their 3rd Summer Camp after 3 days of sun, rain, wonderful hurling skills and great fun. Running from July 8th-11th at St. Mary’s Park, the camp was managed by 25 club volunteers and attended by 100 children, comprising club juveniles aged 5-13, with some extended family members and friends from near and far.

The camp was organised by the club’s Coaching and Games sub-committee, led by Coaching Officer, David Connolly & Children’s Officer, Marisa Duffy, with support from the club executive. Castleblayney College and Castleblayney Faughs facilitated the hosting of the camp by offering their wonderful facilities. Ray and Dominic from The Mascot Castleblayney and Ardee sponsored the camp and were invited on the last day for photographs with the children wearing The Mascot sponsored jerseys. The striking Playrfit camp jerseys were organised by Papa Murphy. Aine McGuigan from Crafty, Castleblayney sponsored some camp treats for the children which went down very well and the children were also treated to an ice cream or slushie by the club, provided by McMoo’s.

Inaugural Summer Camp Awards

Special guests on the day were family members of Maurice Drumm, who was a co-founder of the club in 1954. During our 70th celebrations, family members of the Founding Committee were invited to our Dinner Dance where they were presented with a commemorative plaque. Inspired by this event, Maurice’s daughter, Mary Callaghan initiated awards in her father’s name and sponsored beautiful plaques at the different age levels, attending the camp. We were delighted to have Mary and her sister, Martina Drumm, present the Maurice Drumm Castleblayney Hurling Club Summer Camp Awards to 8 camp participants. The U8 awards went to Jack McConnell and Sophie O’Keefe, the U10 awards went to Jason Carragher and Niamh O’Sullivan, the U12 awards went to Jamie Carragher and Aimee Smithers and the U14 awards went to Shay Mallie and Alex Fitzpatrick. Congratulations to the very worthy winners. A very special occasion for the club and for the Drumm family. The beautiful trophies were supplied by McElroy Awards and Signage, Castleblayney.
