Volunteer Appreciation Award for David Connolly

Congratulations to our Coaching & Cultural Officer, David Connolly who was recognised by Monaghan GAA at an Awards Evening on 21st December 2023 in The Four Seasons, Monaghan. Well deserved David! David’s citation read as follows:

We honour David Connolly as our Volunteer for 2023. A proud lifelong member of Castleblayney Hurling, David is the son of the late great Terry Connolly, and comes from a long line of hurling stalwarts. David began playing hurling with the club in 1989, as an U12 juvenile player. He went on to play at both senior and county level. In 1997, he was a member of Monaghan’s first ever All-Ireland hurling winning team alongside his brother Ciaran.

David has worn many hats in the club over the years. He served as Chairperson from 2008-2010, and he has been working on our club history book since 2015. This man is the cornerstone of our club, he never hesitates to help out, a true gentleman who has time and respect for everyone. Currently serving as Coaching Officer and Cultural Officer, David is a valued member of the executive committee. His popularity with the kids makes him a very popular juvenile coach. David became Chairman of the Coaching and Games Committee in 2022, and hosted the first Hurling Summer Camp in Co. Monaghan. Thank you so much for your dedication, time and commitment, David, from all of us at Castleblayney Hurling. Congratulations on your award!
