Gerry Murphy RIP

Castleblayney Hurling club wishes to express our deepest condolences to the family and friends of Gerry Murphy, The Crescent, Castleblayney whose death occurred on June 2nd 2023.

Gerry represented the club for many years as a player and gave huge service as a hurling coach at club and County level. He also represented Monaghan as a player and manager at County level and managed the County Minors to The All Ireland C title.

Gerry will be remembered as a true hurling man who inspired many young players with his knowledge and enthusiasm for the game. He is predeceased by his father, Eddie who was also a Blayney Hurling legend. Gerry, with his sister, Mary, and the late Eddie, has given a lifetime of service to the Castleblayney camogie club also.

We extend our deepest sympathies to his sisters, Mary & Bridie and the extended Murphy family on his passing.

Ní bheidh a leithéid ann arís.

Ar Dheis Dé go raibh a anam dilís

On Saturday 3rd June, as Gerry bowed out of this life, Monaghan Senior Hurlers contested the Lory Meagher All Ireland Final in Croke Park meeting Lancashire. And  to send Gerry to his resting place in peace, Monaghan Hurlers were declared Lory Meagher All Ireland Champions on that day.  It is a fitting tribute to Gerry that a minutes silence was observed prior to the game and the National anthem was not sung.

Croke Park, Saturday 3rd June 2023.

Condolence email from Michael Carroll, County Secretary to our Secretary on the news of Gerry’s passing:

May Gerry’s soul rest in eternal peace
