Castleblayney Hurling Club Notes 19th Dec 2022

50/50 Draw for December took place last Friday and we had several happy people after it, Santa came early! Congrats to David Connolly who scooped €575 in the main draw. To acknowledge our supporters, we also had an additional TWO €100 winners which went to Julie Ann Murphy and Fiona Smyth, while the TWO €50 winners were Martin Murphy and Bronagh McCarthy. A sincere thank you to all those who continue to support us every month, it is much appreciated and is invaluable to the running of our club.

The Monaghan GAA Volunteer Recognition & Appreciation Award & the Champion 15 ‘All Star’ 2022 presentations took place in the Four Seasons Hotel last Thurs evening and saw Matty Martin receive the Volunteer award for his unending commitment and dedication to the club both on and off the field, with no job too big or too small for Matty. The Hurling Champion 15 saw the club secure ten out of the 15 places. Congrats to Brian Flanagan, Colin Merrick, Declan Hughes, Deaglan Crowe, Aaron Kenny, Fergal Rafter, Patrick Finnegan, Niall Garland, Brian McGuigan & Thomas Hughes, well deserved accolades for all concerned.

DCU Freshers Team well done to Senior player, Thomas Hughes who has been included in the DCU Freshers panel, testament to Thomas’ skill and talent and a wonderful opportunity to play with such hurling elite.

Monaghan U-17 Hurling Trials 2023 Calling all hurlers born in 2006/2007/2008! You are invited to attend Monaghan County U17 Hurling Trials for 2023 on Wed 4th Jan 2023 from 7.15 – 8.45pm in Monaghan GAA Centre of Excellence. If you are interested register your name with club Secretary Sheila Forde asap.

Christmas wishes to all our players, families, friends, supporters at home and abroad, wishing you all a happy and safe Christmas and best wishes for the New Year. Thinking also of all those who have lost someone over the year, may your memories of happier times sustain you over these days.

St Stephen’s Day 18th Annual 10K Fun Run/Walk is again virtual this year. People are being invited to take part in this year’s event with proceeds in aid of St Mary’s Comfort Fund. Do your run anytime between 26th Dec and 1st January starting from and finishing at St Mary’s. You can donate via gofund.me/2b7ccdb6. An event for all the family and for a brilliant cause!

Monaghan Coaching & Games are hosting a workshop titled ‘What are the key ingredients to manage a team’, delivered by Liam Sheedy on Sat 14th Jan in Cloghan 11 to 1pm, cost €5 per person. This is aimed at hurling & football coaches from U13 upwards and should be very informative. Please note change of DATE. Get in touch if you are interested in attending the course.
